The dock is a nicely designed and packaged bit of kit... works fine with an uncased iphone... but... the central flaw... is that it doesn't work as advertised with "Rugged Cases". At least not all of them.
I for example have a Ghostek Atomic 3.0, which is a great case and not particularly thick. The issue is at the base. For reasons best known to the designer they've made the length of the charging point too low above the wider strip to hold the weight of the phone. Fine if your case has a gaping one inch recess at the bottom. Not so much if it's got a hole the size of the charging point.
There is a fix. You can attach a CableJive. But it's then quite an expensive package just for charging. Particularly given Apple may dump Lightning in the next rollout. So disappointing. They need to put an extender option in the next design to really cover all bases.
