The hard plastic backing allows for solid protection and is great for showing off your phones brand and design. It also allows for a metal plate for magnet mounting or a pop grip adhesive accessory.
The clear gel like edging helps gives grip to the phone in one hand preventing slips and is good shock absorption if dropped. The gel edging also allows for and works well with the 'Squeeze for Google Assitant' function on the Pixel 3. The edging is slightly raised around the screen of the phone to help screen protection without getting in the way. It covers the power and volume buttons but allows their use without any extra pressure needed.
The cut out around the camera, fingerprint sensor, microphone and USB C port are all very good and do not hinder their function.
There is a slim silver outline which adds a little bling and fits in well with the design of the Pixel.
The only negative side is that the gel material does not look as clear as the plastic backing and seems a little ghosted but it does provide very good protection.
